Phase 1: Project Planning and Design
Research studies require statistical thinking from the very beginning. Before the start of data collection, investigators think about how to translate their scientific questions into testable hypotheses. They select specific, measurable outcomes and decide how to collect them. And they define sample size targets and randomization strategies.
The CCTS Biostatistics Core (BSC) works with investigators to plan and design studies that will produce meaningful statistical results. During this phase, we can help your team:
- Define your quantitative measures and hypotheses
- Choose an appropriate study design (e.g., randomized trial or case-control study)
- Develop a statistical analysis plan
- Calculate the minimum sample size needed to answer your research questions
- Develop an approach to randomization
- Draft a grant proposal
